If you're a good worker, and you have the right kind of degree or certification, you probably won't have too much trouble finding a good job with a competitive salary.
Surveys showed that many 1998 engineering and computer science majors were looking at job offers with starting salaries as high as $50,000. There has been a sharpdecrease in the number of these majors, and the result is a great demand for students trained in technology.

Liberal arts majors who graduated from college in 1998 were looking at an average starting salary of $28,875, according to the National
Association of Colleges and Employers.

But if you're not an engineering or computer science grad, don't despair. A survey conducted by the National Association of Colleges and Employers
(NACE) showed that liberal arts majors are enjoying a trickle-down effect of the technology boom. "Liberal arts majors are attractive to employers because they come prepared with communication skills and the ability to learn technical skills.

Contacting creditors as soon as possible is vital. With credit cards, for example, you start receiving notices and collection calls as soon as you miss a payment date, and an entry is made at that time on your credit report. Credit card issuers can cancel your card when your account reaches 45 to 60 days overdue, depending on the company's policy. And all creditors will be happier with you if they feel that you're making a conscious effort to get them some money.

If, after you work out your budget and cut every possible nonessential expense, you fnd that you don't have enough money to cover your minimum payments, asking your credit card companies for a reduction in minimum payments would be worthwhile. To do so, you need to do a bit of work:

1. Make a list of all your credit cards.
2. Next to the name of each card, write the account number, balance due, and minimum payment.
3. Total the minimum payments due for all cards.
4. Determine by how much you must reduce this total in order for the payments to fit into your budget.
5. Next to each minimum payment, write a proposed minimum that enables you to reduce the total slightly more than necessary (to give yourself room to negotiate, in case the companies do not accept your proposed amounts). Be reasonable, however you can reduce $75 to $50, but not to $1.
